Very Strange / Very Annoying Mouse problem

I think its been ever since I installed XP on my
system... everything has worked fine for quite sometime,
but my mouse occasionally freezes, and the PC speaker
makes a beep noise. Sometimes is happens 10 times in a
row, and sometimes it doesnt happen at all.

Any ideas?
 
Swap out / borrow another first to make sure it's not the mouse.
