Hello all,

I will be suprised and impressed if anyone can figure this out...

My system info:

OS Name: Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version: 5.1.2600 Service Pack 1 Build 2600
System Model: System Name
System Type: X86-based PC
Processor: x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 0 AuthenticAMD ~1802 Mhz
BIOS Version/Date: Award Software, Inc. ASUS A7V333 ACPI BIOS Revision
1015, 10/29/2002
SMBIOS Version: 2.3
Windows Directory C:\WINDOWS
System Directory C:\WINDOWS\System32
Total Physical Memory: 512.00 MB
Available Physical Memory: 267.08 MB
Total Virtual Memory: 1.72 GB
Available Virtual Memory: 1.31 GB
Page File Space :1.22 GB
Page File: C:\pagefile.sys

My IE info:

Version: 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633

Additional applications:

Office XP 2002
Windows Messenger
NAV

The Problem:

About half the time I attempt to close ANY open window, the system
will hang/lock/freeze. Eventually the "Not responding - End Task"
dialog box appears, and I have to end the task. It appears that
explorer.exe has to recycle, since the taskbar dissapears completely,
and finally reappears (sometimes with missing icons running in the
taskbar.)

I have seen this problem happen with the Task Manager up, and neither
CPU usage or memory usage get very high at all.

I have noticed this issue with every window at some point or another,
leading met to believe that explorer.exe or one of its dependent
libraries is corrupt.

CAN ANYONE POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION??

Thanks very much!

Have you looked in the event viewer to see if there are any
diagnostic messages?

(snippage)

Time for some serious hardware testing. Start with the RAM, and then go
to the hard drive. If you can't do this yourself, take the box to a
good local computer repair shop - not a CompUSA/BestBuy type store.
