Very slow startup, login, logoff

When I start up my XP machine it takes a very long time to get the logon
screen. The mouse cursor appears jerky during startup and at the logon
screen. Logins and logouts are also very slow, but once I'm logged in,
everything is fine.

I recently added a Logitech cordless mouse to my system. I've installed the
correct driver from the Logitech website. I don't know if this is
relevant.

I've done an sfc /scannow. This seemed to result in a COM+ error. I've
reinstalled COM+ using "Add windows components" (and an article from the
knowledgebase). There are now no errors appearing in the Event Viewer when
I log on and off.

I've done a complete virus scan recently and am running PC-Cillin.

Can anybody help?
