Very Slow RIS install

Tim

I have 4 sites all running windows 2003 server and RIS.
At 3 of the sites, RIS runs great and takes very little
time to upload or download a RIS image. However, at one
site, RIS takes a very long time. The server with RIS
installed is using all of the same hardware as the other
sites and the clients are all the same machines as the
other sites. At the sites that are working, it normally
takes 15-30 minutes to receive an image. At the site
that has problems, I'm still waiting for it to finish
since yesterday. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If the server is multihomed this can happen. I had a server with multiple
IP's attached to the same nic as well as a second nic, and it wasn't until I
did a network trace that I realized that for every file that the remote
machine requested from the RIS server the RIS server would try to send it
back using a different ip/subnet until it timed out and sent it on the
correct one. I moved RIS to a single nic/single IP server and it works great
now. During the TFTP portion of the setup it works fine, but when it switches
to SMB it all falls apart.
