Very slow operation only if connected to my network? Otherwise wo.

When I connect my laptop to my network it takes forever to do anything in
access. If I disconnect from the network everything works just fine. I also
noticed this when using wordperfect 12. Any suggestions?
 
This often suggests that you default printer is a network printer.....

Try installing a really stupid simple printer (a HP laser JET II is my
favorite). Make this printer your default.

Now, things should run the same when connected...or not....
