Very slow logging off

I have a problem when logging off (very slow indeed) and cannot shut down
when still logged in.However,I can turn off with no problems either once I am
logged off or by switching to another user and closing from there. This
problem has seems to have arisen since I ran PCAdware (free version). Is it
possible (or probable)that I`ve
damaged some files?Or is there a system diagnostic tool/program I can access
and run in order to locate and fix my problem?
If anyone can help I`d appreciate it.
Yours in hope,novvo.

I have managed to sort this out myself after reading some of the replies in
both other posts and related sites.
I read that this type of problem is often related to SoundBlaster and lo and
behold, upon reinstalling SoundBlaster the problem was no longer present.
I then however fpound that upon logging in,a small warning box with a cross
on a red background was present yet didn`t tell me what the problem was! This
has now been sorted put by a system restore.
I`d just like to add:- This is all a thorough nightmare most of the time;I
naively imagined that computers were synonomous with progress but it`s
plainly NOT the case.Surely it`s not difficult to provide a free diagnostic
and repair tool.
Yours in exasperation,novvo.
