PC Lock-up in midst of switching user

I have Fast User Switching enabled and sometimes when I log off my user ID or
my wife needs to switch to her ID, I click on Start...Log Off Greg... and
then either Log Off or Switch. It appears that my Log Off goes as it should,
but then the computer does nothing. It remains on a blank screen with no HD
activity. The computer must be either turned off manually or the reset
button pressed. Once up and running again, the Switch User function works
fine. Until the next time.

I do not specifically recall any changes made immediately prior to the start
of this problem, nor have I noticed any connection between programs I run and
the problem with Switch User.

Does your XP have all of the latest updates? If not try fully updating.

Don't quite know what would cause this problem, but on other forums people
that run DeepFreeze seem to sometimes have this problem too. Other forums
have found it to be a problem with Norton (Symantec).

If you have DeepFreeze you can try disabling it. If you have Norton try to
fully update it, if that doesn't work try disabling it. If disabling it
doesn't work then re-enable it.
