very low volume on laptop

Hi, I've recently been given a new laptop from work (with integrated
speakers) and I can't get the sound volume up to anything like a usable
level. I've been through all the settings and even when they are all at max
the sound is extremely quiet - it is the same with or without headphones, and
whether the sound is from online or from a cd.

I've had a look through some similar posts and have already tried the advice
from them.

The soundcard is compatible as far as I can tell....is there anything I've
missed? Any help much appreciated.

Thanks, Marie

Your laptop may have speakers (and amplicifation) that are weak even for a
laptop.

Perhaps (I don't know!) audio power gets limited further when operating on
battery rather than adapter, and obviously the battery is getting
discharged.

Cheers for your reply Chris, think you might be right and I'll just have to
get used to the fact that I've got poor speakers!

Oh well, no headbanging for me.....

;-)

You could use external speakers (not those powered through USB!) or
headphones (wired or wireless).
