vertical slider - navigation question

I thought that when you held the left mouse key down over the vertical
slider that the spreadsheet moved along with it. All I see is a row #
indicator box changing row #'s as I go up or down. Did I change some mouse
setting or am I loosing it?

Do you use two different versions of excel.

In excel 2002, the worksheet moves, so you don't see the row number. In an
earlier version (xl97 for sure, xl2k????), the worksheet didn't move--so you get
the row indicator.
