vertical line in margin but Track Changes not turned on

I use Word 2000 and whenever I apply the Heading 2 style, a vertical line
appears in the left margin. I searched for help on this and it says the
vertical line appears when Track Changes is on, but I don't think it is (the
icon on the Reviewing toolbar isn't depressed). I also searched around
under Format --> Styles to see if it was maybe a border or some other
setting, but I couldn't find anything that would cause the line. Any ideas?
Thanks.

A couple of possibilities.

The line is a border: under Format, Style, Heading 2, select Modify and make
sure that under Borders None is selected.

Perhaps a Bar has been added to the number format. Under Format, Style,
select Modify and select Numbering and then Customise. Make sure that under
Number Format that a Bar hasn't been accidentally preceding the number
format.

Thanks for your ideas. It turns out it was Track Changes after all, though.
That is weird because I never turned it on as far as I'm aware ... and even
more strange (REALLY strage) is that when I apply other styles, such as
Heading 1 or Normal, it works fine. But when I apply Heading 2, I get the
Track Changes mark (vertical line in the left margin). Seems pretty strange
to me. What's so special about Heading 2? (I've customized styles Heading
1 and Heading 2, but I don't see any difference between them which would
cause my problem.)

Nor me either. One of life's mysteries.
