Version compatibility

I generated a presentation using Powerpoint 2000 and sent it to two different
companies both of which are using Powerpoint 2003. One could open the file
with no problems, but the other had an error message that Powerpoint could
not open the file. When I asked company 1 to save the file using Powerpoint
2003 and send it to company 2 company 2 could open the file.

Are there some compatibility issues between these different versions? Is
there some addin necessary to ensure Powerpoint 2003 can open older version
files?

Almost certainly the company that can't open your file has failed to install
the crucial updates in Service Pack 1 (2 would be better)
