I have Windows ME and IE 5.5 installed and I'm unable to
upgrade to v6.0. However I try to install, it gets to 1%
of extracting the files, goes quickly through the rest of
the components and then gives an error message.

I've gone through the motions of deleting and recreating
ADVPACK.DLL and now have a 12/27/2003 version of that file.

Any other ideas?

Did you get an error message saying "unable to install all components?

If you did, try this:

Go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options - View:
- Select "Show hidden files and folders", click Apply - OK

Create a folder named "Old uninstall".

Go to folder C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/Uninstall Information.

Now Edit - Select All - Cut all files.

Open "Old uninstall" folder and paste the files.

You will now be able to install all the troublesome components.

If everything works as expected, you can delete the "Old Uninstall" folder
and the files you moved.

Good luck,

Zee

Thank you for your help. IE6 works now but, even with all
programs shut down and antivirus disabled, it still won't
do a Windows update after that installation. It gets to
the screen but does sticks on system checking.

I have done a repair IE by going via Add/Remove programs
in Control Panel, but that doesn't help.

Any ideas?
