I am trying to set up my microsoft office outlook and cannot get it to work.
I already have an outlook express but am using new software so I thought I
would set that one up. I put in the incoming.yahoo.verizon.net and the
outgoing.yahoo.verizon.net and fill in the other info but no luck. I thought
it might be that there was the old outlook so I removed that and now cannot
get either one to work. What am I doing wrong?

I am assuming that the "incoming.yahoo.verizon.net is the pop3 server that
Verizon has specified for incoming mail and that the outgoing.yahoo..... is
for the SMTP information. Since I can't find any help without logging into
Verizon, I can't verify that information. I would recommend that you call
their technical support (good luck) and ask for their help. All I know is
that my brother's Verizon DSL line goes down (phone and data) at least twice
a year and takes 2-3 days to get it back.

You wrote "microsoft office outlook".
If you are confused over which email program you are running, go to
its Help > About... screen.
Experts on particular programs tend to hang out in dedicated newsgroups.

Thank you LVT. That's right those settings are for the pop3 and smtp for
receiving and sending mail. I was able to get the original to work by
checking for the authentication code in the account setup but the new program
will still not work, there is no similar authentication to check. I guess I
am going to have to call verizon, although I do not think the problem is with
them. Thanks for the reply.

Just for grins, would you define the actual programs you list as "the
original" and "the new program" You mention Outlook Express which cannot
run on Vista, You mention Office Outlook and "the old outlook", but fail to
specify which is new and which is old, and nowhere is Windows Mail
mentioned. So,

1. Are you using Vista or XP
2. If using Vista, where does Outlook Express enter into this?
3. What's the relationship between the Office Outlook you're trying to setup
and "the old outlook"?

Hi Hal,

Thank you for your resonse. I may be using the wrong terminology for the
programs. I am running Vista and the "old program" I was refering to was
Window's Mail not Outlook Express but the new software I thought did have
office outlook , anyway I removed that program. The problem I am now having
is getting back to where I was with this Windows Mail. When I try to use a
contact from a webpage I cannot get the browser to open. For instance I
tried to make reservations from a webpage but couldn't get the e mail to
open. Thank you and I hope I have answered the questions ok.

When I try to open the message I get is " could not perform this operation
because the default mail client is not properly installed " Does this help
explain my problem?

Apparently the uninstall of Outlook corrupted the defaults.
The following procedure will rewrite the default protocol
assignments in the registry:
Open the Default Programs applet, then click on "Set program
access and computer defaults." Expand the Custom selection, and
select some other email program besides Windows Mail. Click OK.
Then go back and select Windows Mail. Click OK.

Thanks Gary,

I did what you said. I opened the default programs and then the set program
and ok'd windows contacts and then went back and set the windows mail and
then choose defaults and then checked all three and now it seems to work.
Thanks again.
