.VCR format creates interlace bleed

I enjoy the efficiency of ATI MMC's VCR format for when I record video,
however, it has a problem with the way it compresses video. It meshes
the colors a bit, causing the interlaced fields to begin bleeding into
each other. When this happens, every interlaced image contains
reminants of the other field not being displayed, which is annoying
when the colors are really visible.

So I've been trying to find other formats ATI has to record in. I tried
using the HuffYUV lossless codec for AVI, which I'd use with VirtualDub
hadn't ATI's drivers disabled that ability, but the ATI software causes
the audio to slow out of synch. Any successful formats out there for
this?

I know exactly what my source is. It's the capture method that's the
problem. When I capture to a format like HuffYUV, everything's nice and
easy to deinterlace, unlike with VCR. The main problem I have with
HuffYUV and ATI is the sound slowly desynchs, and I'm trying to find a
method around that.

I've tried that, but whenever I attempt to record to MPEG-2 format,
nothing happens. I click the record button, screen turns black, and
everything goes back to normal. No recording.
