Hi all,

I was using vb5sp3 under Win98 and after Win2K and vb still keep my settings
of the IDE (toolbars, visible windows - hide form layout window...
please...).

But now I have installed WinXP Pro SP1 (always logged as one user of
administrator type), I need to reset all vb's settings each time I close and
restart it.

Why defaults settings are always coming back...???...

How to save definitively vb's IDE settings in WinXP?

Thanks a lot for answers,

Best you ask this in a VB-orientated newsgroup ...

VB5 is getting pretty old and it's possible that it simply dosn't like
not like XP's security setup without some tweaking. Do you get any
error messages? I don't know where VB5 saves user settings, but perhaps
you can find that out and then ensure that your ID has permissoins for
that location (just becuase you run with admin rights doesn't mean you
have rights to everything).

Hi Rob,

Permissions (in the registry) are set to Full Control...

Any other ideas?

Thanks a lot.

OK ... but have you confirm that VB5 uses XP's registry for the default
settings? I don't really know and have no way (or interset) to look
this up for you.

If you have not done already, suggest that you find out where these
default settings go. My recollection is that VB5 pre-dates the concept
of the Windows Registry (but my recollection may be dim as it was a very
long time ago that I was using VB5).

Property 'Compatibility Mode' of the
Visual Basic Shortcut was set to:
'Run this program in compatibility nmode for Windows 98/Me'
Unchecking the compatibility mode corrects the problem.

Hope this helps somebody else...

See ya!
