VB.NET book suggestions?

I need help to learn this language (vb.net), but I am a rookie when it
comes to vb.net.
There is no reason for me to spend too much time to research which
book would be the best choice to buy, because I don't know that much
about it anyways.
So could someone give me some good suggestions on which vb.net book is
the best for amateurs? please?

The Visual basic .NET Core Reference by Francesco Balena is IMHO the best
VB.NET book because it's the most thorough. There are TONS of good ones
though and basically if it comes from MS Press, APress and or Addison-Wesley
Press - it's probably a winner

For newbie what do you think about Mackenzie Sharkey's "Visual Basic .NET
in 21 days" from SAMS?
I know - 21 days, but i think that's a good book for newbie

I think the Francesco Balena book is a Must-Have for any serious VB.Net
developer.
My only worry would be that if you are a complete beginner (that is, you
haven't come
to VB.Net from, say, VB6) then you will almost certainly find it hard going.
This isn't a criticism - it is simply that Francesco Balena manages to cram
such a
fantastic huge amount into his great book simply because he assumes at the
outset
that you have a VB background.

A good Get-You-Started book (ie. one that will certainly not be the only one
you need as you
progress) is Visual Basic .Net Programming by Harold Davis (Sybex). It
makes no pretence
to be the global reference that the Balena book offers, but very clearly
explains all of the basic
concepts that it does cover - and manages to do this without patronising you
in that annoying "for Dummies"
style used in many beginners books.

I have also found Mastering VB.Net by E. Petroutsos, published by Sybex,
to be very useful time after time.

I also found "Coding Techniques in VB.Net" by J Connell (MS Press) to be a
very good book, which covers a wide
variety of topics with clear explanations and interesting projects and
examples.
