I have various Roxio programs** on my computer with Windows XP as my
Operating
System. What are they used for? Which other programs/applications do I need
them for?

Thank you,

Barry Karas

Barry,

Two points:
- Did you google for the answer?
- Why would ask this in a "Windows XP General" newsgroup?

Roxio support pages:
http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/default.html

Google for RoxMediaDB9.exe
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=RoxMediaDB9.exe
Might lead to:
http://www.processlibrary.com/directory?files=RoxMediaDB9.exe

Google for RoxWatch9.exe
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=RoxWatch9.exe
Might lead to:
http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/roxwatch9/

Google for RoxWatchTray9.exe
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=RoxWatchTray9.exe
Might lead to:

Good Luck.

Roxio is generally a CD/DVD writing application. The various programs you're
seeing do various things that are all somehow connected to writing to CD or
DVD disks. No other programs depend on Roxio programs. Why do you ask? The
files you note appear to be background utilities that Roxio loaded to
supposedly make life easier, but which most likely aren't doing you any
good. Automatic updating might be one. Another would support a re-writable
CD or DVD set up to act like a hard drive that you can send files to and
they will automatically be written to the CD or DVD. Not a feature I
recommend using.

You can disable all of those startup apps using MSCONFIG.
