Validation area location

I'm trying to set up a worksheet that uses drop down boxes and I have
the validation set up and everything with that regard working... the
problem is... I can't find a place to put the data?

The data will be in Colums A-I - but the number of rows will continue
to grow over time.

The issue is, the info auto sorts the rows (based on last name of
person) each time the spreadsheet is opened.

So, if I put the data at the bottom, it gets mixed into the data and
sorted. If I put it off to the side, it ends up throwing off the
order of the validated info because the data has changed.

Is there a way to put the data somewhere without it being altered? It
can't go above the data because of the auto sort when it opens... it
uses the first row as the header and I don't know how to make it skip
more than the first row? Maybe that's the solution?

Can someone help?

You're using data|validation...

You can put those lists on a different worksheet (and hide that worksheet???).
