I upgraded from Win ME to Win 2000 and now my monitor
doesn't work properly. I can't find out how to get a new
driver that's compatible with Win 2000. I think I may have
other problems with this installation but the monitor is
the most pressing. What can I do. Yes, I did select to
change the compression to N??? Am I totally screwed? I
tried to do a restore with my Sony Vaio restore disks but
the computer says I have the wrong command.com. What are
my options?

We need to know more about how the monitor does not work? Have you went
to Sony's web site to see if there are specific drivers for Windows 2000
for your model of system. Also sometimes they will be a specific process
you must follow for a system.

In addition to Dave's comment, note that Sony Vaio tech support will not
talk to you if you upgrade your OS. [In fact, I sometimes think that Sony
Vaio tech support will not talk to you if you opened the box your laptop
shipped in to just look at the pretty shiny thing, let alone used it at all
as a computer.]

You need to boot from the system restore disks - you will have to format and
reinstall....I hope you backed up your data. :-(

Hi Val,

I sorry to say that Me came out after Windows 2000,
so you can't really upgrade without the chance of
having problems in the future.

There should be Win2000 drivers for your monitor,
but you need to know the make and model. From your
post, the make is sure to be Sony, but Sony has a
rolling ton of monitor models and the drivers
are/maybe different for each. Tell you what, get
the model and go to Google and type in, "Sony
monitor Model xxxxx 15 inch Drivers" and see what
you get. You can download it to your desktop and
usually install from there. Try right mouse it and
see if it gives a choice to "Install".
