My machine (windows XP o/s)keeps shutting down during CD playback, the playing of music files, DVD playback and virus scans. The only major change that has been made in recent months is a new internet connection. I have scanned for the blaster worm but it came up clean.
Any suggestions?

Sounds like a hardware issue. Try re-installing drivers
for the drive. Check Sony's website for updates.

Shut down the computer, and after waiting for 10-15 minutes for the cpu
to cool, blow out all of the air intakes and vents with a can of
compressed air, being careful to hold the can exactly vertical so as not
to introduce any liquid into the computer. Do this in the sunlight so
you can see if any dust, crumbs, cat fur, are blown out.
