vaio freeze

I bought a new Vaio PCG-K17 about two months ago. It intermittently (anywhere
from one to six hours after starting up) freezes completely. The screen
doesn't change, and the mouse is still visible, but it is completely
unresponsive. The only way to restart is by holding down the power switch.
Interestingly, when it starts back up it does not give the message "this
system was shut down improperly", etc. I think I've installed all the updates
on the windows and sony sites. Any suggestions?

Trouble with that is that they will simply say use their restore disk.
Sony support is not!
The trouble with an intermittent problem is they are v.hard to diagnose, you
could try running in safe mode to see if it still occurs but 1-5 hrs may be
difficult.
You could also try msconfig to disable all startup apps.
I had a similar problem, it eventually ceased, but I was never able to work
out why/what caused it

Are you still having a problem with this laptop?

In the UK this laptop is badged as K115z and there are quite a few of
us experiencing freeze problems with this laptop including me.

Mine has been in and out of Vaio support and they claim never to have
heard of the problem and not able to recreate it so are taking no
responsability.
