v5.1 Freezes - What to Do?

I'm using Movie Maker v5.1. On a regular basis, the program freezes up to the
point that I have to open the task manager to shut the program down. There is
no consistency as to when it happens. It happens when editing movie clips,
playing back the timeline, adding effects, etc. Any thoughts on what might be
happening or how to stop this?
