I have a Toshiba Tecra WinXp - I get this error every now and then:

Windows - Delayed Write Failed
Windows was anable to save all the data for the file
\Device\Harddisk\Volume3\$Extended\$UsnJrnl;$]. The data has been lost.
This error maybe coused by a failure of your computer hardware or network
connection. Please try to save this file elsewher.

what is it? is it a hd failure? How do I fix it?

Thanks

Gianluca

The file you mention is the NTFS change journal. This is where a record of
all changes to the files on the drive are kept.
I would start by running chkdsk

then

This is often caused by caching errors. Especially if it is an external
drive?
Try turning of write caching on the drive and see if it fixes the issue.
Go into Device Manager
Select the Drive
Right click it and select Properties.
On the Policies tab, uncheck the box for Write Caching.
