To allow updates on the internet when using Norton
Firewall:

Open Norton Internet Security
Click "Configure"
Click "Programs" tab
In manual program control section, ensure setting's for
MS Antispyware set for "permit all".

No, not all their software fall under that category Danny, Norton AntiVirus
Corporate Edition is certain sleek and fast.

I am not fond of the security suite. It's a little too much for the average
user in my opinion. I use just the antivirus and supplement that with Zone
Alarm. On old machines with slow processors, I'll install AVG instead of
Norton. Admittedly Norton is a resource hog.
