Using windows 2000 as primary desktop

Have just setup a 3 puter LAN. The primary machine running off the router runs windows 2000 professional. The other two wireless connections are on a desktop running XP and a laptop running XP. Try in create a file sharing/printer sharing situation. The Setup Local Area wizard only runs on XP, 98, Me and not windows 2000. Can not get my shared printer, shared files to be recognized by either of the remote XP systems. Share internet connections and emails fine
Any help in making the two systems speak with each other
Thank
Gerry

Make sure everyone is in the same workgroup.
Set up all user login names and passwords identically on all computers.
Make sure you can ping each computer from the other using the TCP/IP
address. Then try by computer name.
You don't need any wizards for this.

See www.pctechnicians.ca and www.wown.com for help with setting up
small/home networks

Re your wireless - you may have done this already, but I'll suggest it
anyway - make sure you've:

a) changed the default SSID in the access point
b) changed the admin password in the access point
c) set the access point and all wireless computers to use 128-bit WEP and
make sure the access point won't accept any connections from
non-WEP-configured computers
d) hide the SSID broadcast on the access point

Otherwise you will probably have uninvited visitors. Also, you don't mention
what kind of Internet connection you're using, but I'd recommend using a
broadband router/firewall that does stateful packet inspection (SPI) - is
your wireless access point also your broadband router?

WEP and SPI firewalls aren't bombproof, and are only one step needed in
securing your network, but it's a good place to start.
