security update killed my file and printer sharing

I am running Windows 2000 on a computer with a printer
attached. I had file and printer sharing enabled and
working fine (we have two computers on a LAN behind a
hardware router/firewall). Then I allowed windows to
install a batch of hotfixes and security updates and now
file and printer sharing don't work anymore. My computer
can't even see itself in "My network places". I
have "file and printer sharing" installed. The Server
service is running. I have shared the printer and a disc
folder. Nothing (other than itself) is visible to the
other computer.

Any ideas????

never heard of a hotfix killing network access.
try these troubleshooting steps.
