Using "@" unrelated to email address

When using Excel (Office 2000) worksheets to track my stocks, I use the "@"
symbol to mean "at" (like 500 @ 56.30). Instead the cell auto-formats it as a
formula (=) and tries to make an email address out of it (with little blue
underlined letters) and then tries to put me online. No matter how I try to
format the cell it is ignored. After a struggle I can trick it but there
must be a way to remove this auto cell conversion from a formula to a regular
cell format. Please help.

Tools/ AutoCorrect options/ AutoFormat as you type:
Uncheck the one about internet & network paths being turned to hyperlinks

Goto Tools>AutoCorrect Options>Auto Format as You Type

Uncheck: Internet and network paths with hyperlinks

Doing what David and Gary suggest results in a global setting to not
apply a hyperlink when @ is entered. This will apply to any usage of the @
symbol anywhere in your file and in any other file. If this is what you
want, then do that. But you can achieve the same thing on a local basis by
preceding your entry with an apostrophe, like '. HTH Otto
