Using .theme files in Vista

Hi - Is it possible to use desktop themes with a ".theme" extension in Vista?
I'm looking to upgrade to Vista later this year via buying an upgraded
computer. I'm doing a mass organization of my desktop themes using a program
that allows you to make changes and save the updated file with a ".theme"
extension. Even if Vista doesn't have the necessary program to "install" the
theme, will it be possible to use these files using the correct program?
Thanks!

Theoretically, sure - but I don't think any of the programs you used in XP
have been updated to work in Vista. The old theme programs for XP don't
work.

I've got XP themes to work in Vista, but you have to return to classic view.
Background, icons, etc all change, but transparency/3D doesn't.

Bob & Robert,

Thank you for your replys. Going back to classic view will just change the
look of things right?

Have you been able to use Style XP? I tried but it wouldn't work.

Hi - I don't have Vista yet so I don't know. Maybe someone else would be
able to answer your question.

I copied the related theme files/folders (Kincaid Cottages in my case, which
worked in Windows 98 and XP) into "C:\Windows\Resources\Themes" in Vista and
the themes were listed in Vista Themes. It changed the theme to what you
choose, but didn't apply any Aero effects. No Glass. May be a way to do
that, but I haven't figured it out.

The file path in Windows 98/me, XP...was "C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes"

Update:

After choosing the theme from the list in "Right click desktop,
Personalize/Theme."

I then reapplied the Aero selection in ".....Color and Appearance. The
Desktop Icons
defaulted to a medium size so I also changed that to "Classic" in the View
menu after right clicking the desktop.

Now I've got an older theme with full Aero/3D effects.
