using TABS for outline numbering

S

Steve 4454

I am trying to do an outline using the Outline Numbered format in Word XP.
It is working fine but only when I use the Increase Indent or Decrease
Indent buttons on the formating toolbar. I seem to remember being able to
use TAB or SHIFT TAB to do the same thing on my previous computer. When I
look at the Help section, they too seem to suggest that you should be able
to do it either way. But the TAB and SHIFT TAB method is not working at all
now. Both just give me an ordinary Tab instead of changing the outline
level.

Any suggestions on how I can get the TAB and SHIFT TAB to work in Ouline
Number mode?

TIA

Steve,
I take it that you mean Word2002 when you say WordXP, to make the Tab work
again do the following: choose Tools - AutoCorrect options - choose the
autoformat tab, way down the dialogue box your will find an option to
activate the tab as you were accustomed to.

On the AutoFormat As You Type tab of Tools | AutoCorrect Options, check the
box for "Set left and first indent with tabs and backspaces."
