Using Remote Desktop Connection on a Home Network

I have a Home Network with 5 PC's running VISTA Ultimate. As Administrator,
can I use Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) to monitor the usage of my kids
PC's ? (thru user account control and the Administrator Sign On I have
established on each Kids PC)

If so, how would I log on to those. I have opened RDC and I show the
WORKGROUP, but there are no listed PC's.

You have to turn it on on the remote PC. Type Remote Desktop in Help and you
will get detailed instructions. Read Help.

Hi, RDP will log off the current user, In this scenario VNC was an ideal
solution and it is free. However VNC isn't fully supported in Vista and the
only one I know off is Radmin but this isn't free.

VNC will show you the users screen, if you dont want to let kids know you
are connected then must 'hide' icon when started. At present it needs to be
started in 'user' mode to work in vista and make sure you exclude any of
these programs in windows firewall. Also Microsoft defender will highlight
it as a risk which needs excluding.

Google, radmin, VNC (there are other varients) and VNC FAQs re Vista.

With regards to searching network, you really need a server based network
for this function to work properly. Also as you are in a workgroup typing in
pc name should work but then depends if your main 'browser' pc is on line
and if pcs have been updated. At home maybe better to configure fixed IPs
unless you are confident with network / lan settings.

Rather than scan the workgroup, just type in the local name or IP of the
machine you wish to connect to. Also, when you log on, the current user will
be logged off, Vista does not support multiple simultaneous active users.

The main browser is always online. There are frequent elections to become
master browser. So as long as one computer is on there will be a master
browser.

You statement is not quite correct. If the nominated 'master browser' was
switched off i.e user finished using it it could take upto an hour before
another is nominated (minimum of 3 broadcasts every 12 mins ) and this could
cause havoc in a workgroup scenario,

probably given the orinal poster a headache now... ;-)

Is activity of the RDP user exposed on the remote screen?

Is there any other way to retrieve activity logs of remote computers set up
to use parental controls?
