Using PST files with Exchange

When you install Exchange 2003 onto a previously workgroup network, Outlook
asks if you want to store your new Exchange mailbox in your existing PST
file. Are there any advantages to using PST files? Can I share calendar and
contact info if I use PST files with an Exchange server?
One issue is that I now have two sets of inboxes. One for Exchange and the
original POP3 mailbox. Is there any way to "hide" the Exchange inbox so it
doesn't confuse the users? If I hide the Exchange mailbox, will that screw
up calendar sharing and seeing the Global Address List?
My users are insisting on keeping their PST files and their POP3 mail
accounts - but they like the Global Address List and calendar sharing. Is
this just another case of users wanting cake and eating it, too? Thanks!

Personally you should get rid of the pst as they are not required or desired
in an Exchange environment, you cannot natively share pst whatever the
environment. You need to find out why the users are insisting on keeping
their pst and POP3 accounts. You can drag and drop the information from the
pst into the Exchange mailbox and then get rid of the pst, the POP3 is
delivering email to the Exchange mailbox anyway unless you have all mail
being delivered to the pst. You cannot hide the Exchange mailbox you can
only remove it from the profile and then yes you will lose sharing and the
GAL.
