using palm treo with outlook express

I am trying to sync my palm treo 700wx to my pc which has outlook express.
However I get an error message saying this can not be done and that I need
outlook 2000 or later.

does this sound correct?

and if I purchase and download a new version of outlook, will my contacts be
copied from my old outlook express folders into the new outlook?

it is correct; yes, you can import contacts to outlook. Get outlook 2003 or
2007 - preferably in an office suite for best overall experience.
