Using Outlook 2000 with a Lotus Notes server

Is it possible for me to configure Outlook 2000 to use a
Lotus Notes email server?
 
I'm 99% sure you can't. When I asked the question to my
IT group. They said you needed to be on atleast Outlook
2002.
