My elderly neighbor uses both a desk top (primary) and
laptop. He wants to upgrade to XP and has asked for my
help. I need to know if it is possible to utilize one
program for both computers. Both computers will need to
access the internet.
He is defining himself as 1 'user', although he has 2
computers.
How can I explain the process to him?

thanks in advance...

Hi Mel,

One license per computer, one license per CD, therefore one CD per computer.

He will need to buy one copy of WinXP for each.

have him go the the xp site where he can purchase an
additional license because you can have up to three
license for one copy of xp that way he can install it on
another computer without buying another copy of xp and it
should be somewhere around $84.00

First thing I would look at would be if the hardware was up to the task of
running XP [especially the laptop], and if the installed software would need
to be updated or replaced along with hardware like scanners, non-scsi tape
backup, partitioning/disk utilities. Does the out of pocket costs make sense
purchasing the two XP upgrades necessary for activation plus the hardware
and software upgrades? What needs do the have that XP will provide. Is it
possible the purchase of a new entry level system with XP installed and
bundled with updated productivity software wouldn't be a better choice?
With a very minimal expenditure, they could network all the systems with the
new one and have much more flexible and useful home network.
