Using Movie Maker to capture clips off DVD?

I used my DVD recorder to record off my analog video camera to make DVD home
movies.. My computer will play the DVD, but Movie Maker will not reconize it
as a device to capture movies. I want to make still pictures. Is there any
way to get Movie Maker to capture clips off the DVD? If not, what product or
procedure works best to do this? Any suggestions?
Thanks for any help.

You are capturing an analog signal, and MM2 only likes digital inputs. You
can try one of the external USB devices which will take an analog video
signal and convert it to digital, and you should have no problem capturing
stills (you can even use MM2 to capture stills). You will find it difficult
to copy commercial DVDs. as they are encoded with various copyright schemes
that makes it very problematic (but not impossible) to copy them.
