Need to get 5 sec clip from DVD

My grandparents put their slides and home video on a DVD using their DVD
Recorder. I think they used their video camera to video their slides.

Anyways, we are working on making a Movie using Movie Maker for them.

What I haven't been able to figure out is how we can get a 5 sec clip from
the movie and/or just a frame. For the Home video, we would like to have
about a 5 sec clip. For the slides, I think the best bet would be to capture
a frame somehow to use in Movie Maker. We have lots of other pictures and
music that we are going to put all together. I think the video is saved in a
..vob format.

Can anyone please help me with this? Thanks.

My grandparents actually videoed the images and then got rid of their slides.
Wish they didn't do that but I guess they didn't really know any better at
that point.

Anyways, I'm using Win XP. What I do want is to get it into Movie Maker and
then I would either like to get a frame or a 5 sec clip.

I'll check out the links and see what else I can try. Thanks for the help.
