I am trying to log on to a network. When I check the properties of the NIC
Card is has the following:

IP Address : 169.254.81.180
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway 0.0.0.0

Automatic Private Address

I want the Server to asign the IP address, so I should see DHCP not
Automatic Private Address.

I can not change the Networking features to access a Domain.

Any Sugestions

Thanks

Dennis

Two possible problems:

1) Network cable is bad. Check with a known working cable

2) Network adapter is not configured/set for DHCP serive. Or could be
dieing/dead. Check with anothe network adapter (a USB to Ethernet adapter
can work!)

1) do you have the DHCP Client Service running? [pretty obvious, I assume
you do, because...]

2) since it seems to have "fallen back" to the Automatic Private Address,
I'd say the DHCP Server is not there or responding. Could your firewall
be preventing that connection? Check the event log for DHCP entries.

The properties for my Network Interface Card shows none of the above
information.
The properties for my Network Connection does show this information,
however I use static IP addresses for my boxen.
To use DHCP the radio button for Obtain and IP address automatically will
turn on DHCP.
