using dbpoweramp to convert wma files to mp3

I've read some good things in various groups about dbpoweramp, so I've
downloaded it.

I have about 400-500 songs on my pc hard drive which are in wma
format. I'd like to convert them to mp3 in bulk. I'm assuming I can
do this with dbpoweramp? Also, I've read that such conversions cause
the loss of some audio quality. How much is "some?" Is it small
enough that it won't be noticed on the type of speakers provided for
most computers?

Also would like any pointers or warnings about using dbpoweramp.

Thanks, RIchard

As to warnings? I personally have had nothing but great results from
this entire suite of db programs.

It is a fine prog. You may notice the loss in quality, though you
may not. It rather depends on your ability to listen.

I've found that when converting songs which I've put into windows
media player format from CDs that it won't convert them because
they are encrypted. I have no idea what this means, as the CDs
were made by my brother for me with his own music on them,
without any desire to encrypt the tracks, and it still won't let
me convert them.

If anyone knows a way around that problem, I'd be interested to
hear.

That's probably due to Microsoft's DRM (digital rights management).

Unfortunately, that's referred to as "cracking" and is not on topic in
this group. It also is probably illegal. 80(>

Besides re-ripping the CDs with another ripper (like CD-Ex or Exact Audio
Copy) I have no idea how to transform your encrypted files into something
that is not encrypted. But, if you have the CDs at hand and there are not
to many of them, that might be an option.

Which you can switch off for your personal CD ripping by going to

Or you can do what I said - and choose the option in the menu :)

That's interesting. What is making it illegal? Is there something
about the process that's not allowed? To be clear - I am NOT
infringing copyrighted materials. And if you want to make it on
topic, howsabout an alternative WMA ->MP3 converter that's not
dbPA, and that doesn't object that material is "encrypted"?

Don't "put them into WMP"; i.e., rip them with something else like CDex.

Maybe I'm not understanding the problem with dbpoweramp but won't the
auxiliary plug-in take care of any encryption? If you can play it on
your computer you can convert it to mp3 with that plug in and dbpoweramp.

Got it in one. When I try to process the files, there is a
message saying that the files are encrypted. I've had to use a
much less stylish hardware solution.
