using databases

I believe i am using frontpage 98 version 3. Whenever I load my web page that
contains an Access database in the browser it loads in html text. I have
followed all of the instructions in the help section but to no avail.
When I use the preview window to see the page it loads ok but with the
following message "This is the start of a
Database Results region. The page must be fetched from a web server with a
web browser to display correctly; the current web is stored on your local
disk or network"
Any suggestions please.

Not sure what you mean by Frontpage 98 Version 3 (there's no such thing).
The recent releases are Frontpage 98, Frontpage 2000, Frontpage 2002 and
Frontpage 2003. Look in the "About...." on the Help menu and it will tell
you what version you're using.

Back to the question, you're getting the error because the page needs to run
on a web server (it is an "active server page" (ASP). You need to save the
page with the database results area as an *.asp page, and publish the page
to an ASP-supported web server (i.e. Windows) which is also running the FP
server extensions.

display correctly; the current web is stored on your local disk or

Sorry, you are quite right, I have Front page 2000.

I have done all that you mention below and proceded to publish my web to
another folder on my PC. Everything works Ok except the results from my
database. Do I have to publish to my website host. Is there any way that I
can see the database results without publishing "live" so to speak and
viewing it across the net.

You must publish the site to server via http that has the FP extensions and support ASP and Access,
and then you must test the page via http://servername/pagename.asp

Additionally: if you're using Windows XP Professional and are running the
IIS that is included, you can publish your site to http://localhost which
lets you see your site in action including ASP pages, and frontpage
extension components like the search form etc without actually publishing it
to the live site.

However if you have Windows XP Pro with IIS installed, you should be developing the site from the
start under localhost, etc.
