Hello,

I only intend to "display" data on the website that currently resdes on my
excel file. i.e. users will not download the data displayed on the website
but only read it as displayed. Hence I was curious to know if the Excel file
can still be used as a database(using ODBC drivers then using database
result wizard)
Please review and advise if it is okay to use Excel to only "display" data
and how to do that. I would be updating the Excel fle daily and hence the
data on the website should change daily as well.
I asked this question regarding excel as a database but everbody suggetsted
me to use access database. I mean Convert excel to access then import it into
frontpage.
I have another question is i am doing all worok in on my computer. This is
the first time i am building my website whcin i imp for me.
what should i do for the following message.
"This is the start of a Database Results region. The page must be fetched
from a web server with a web browser to display correctly; the current web is
stored on your local disk or network"....it is dispying only column names not
records
can u plz tell me detailed steps to solve this problems.
I purchased the domain from microsoft. I have 500Mb free space. is it
possible to run my file there and see the result.

It is OK to use Excel as a read only database, PROVIDED you only ever
have one customer at a time. Excel is not a good choice for a website
database - exporting to a CSV file and using that file is a better
choice since a text file can be opened multiple times for reading. When
*everybody* suggests converting the Excel spreadsheet to an Access
database (I endorse that suggestion) there is a good reason why ...
To solve your new problem - do as the message says and Publish the site
to a Windows server. Then you will be able to test the database pages.
..asp pages will ONLY work when opened from a web server that supports
ASP and the database in use.
