Using Address line in IE 6.0 takes very long to bring up the site

Hello,

I am currently using Microsoft Windows XP (Home) with Norton Internet
Security Suite. All available updates have been downloaded and installed as
far as I know.

Lately I have noticed that when I use the Address line to get to a site, it
take well over a minute (sometimes 3 minutes) to bring the site up. Once I am
in the site I can move around without any problem. Another way I have found
to access the sites I want to get to, is to use a search engine like
"Google". On the search line I type the name of the site I want to go to and
I can get there much faster.

Sooooo, the question is...... Why does it take so long for a site to come up
when I type the name in the Address line?

Hi,
This might be an Autocomplete problem- a corrupt History folder.

Login as another user with administrator privileges, or from the machine's
default administrator account (from safe mode) and delete the affected
History folder from Windows Explorer.

You would not be able to delete this History folder when logged in as
yourself- it's "In use." You should be able to delete it from the
Administrator account.

If this doesn't help, I would conduct a very thorough search for malware.

No one program can remove all malware. Start by downloading and running
CWShredder, Ad-aware and Spybot. Check for updates before running Ad-aware
or Spybot.

If unsuccessful with those programs, you may have to post a HijackThis log
for analysis. Start at

http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm Work through the preliminary cleaning
steps then post a HijackThis log to the forum at

Be patient. It's a busy forum.

HijackThis logs are also analyzed at these (and other) forums. Look for the
proper forum and an "Important- Read This First" message so that you follow
proper procedure.
