Using a .net passport with messenger 6

Sorry if this is a newbie question.
When I first set up my new computer, I established a net passport, and
its this which 'signs me in' to messenger 6.

Since then, I've become paranoid about displaying my (personal) email
address anywhere near the internet! But just because I'm paranoid
doesn't mean they're not out to spam me... the net passport uses this
address.

So my question is this - is there any way that my email address can be
'seen' by anyone (people who might be determined to get it...) while
I'm signed on? I do use a firewall.

Anyone on your contact list will see your Passport e-mail address, other then that, it's
completely protected.
