using a code to insert a pre-saved paragraph

I am trying to set up a paragraph in which each paragraph would have a code
word, i am new to this so hope that i am describing well enough.

what i want to do is to type a code word i.e. dt001, which would be replaced
with a paragraph, i.e. a dual talking dummy would be used in this instance.

can anybody help?

In Word 2003 (not too sure about other versions but this may help), you can
set this up using Autocorrect. Type the paragraph that you would like
autoinserted. Highlight the paragraph. Go to Tools --> Autocorrect Option.
There is a box that says Replace (your highlighted paragraph should appear in
the box to the right of the blank box next to Replace. Type the code that
you would like to enter that will be replaced by your paragraph. Hope this

thanks for that, but tried that and when i try to implement, some of the
codes work but others dont

The previous solution is close, but the tool you want to use if AUTOTEXT.
This is exactly what it is setup for. The best way to learn it is to put the
autotext tool bar on your screen. You can add the text and then assign a
shortcut. You would then type or choose the shortcut and tell autotext to
paste the full text it in. Most people use it for common things like
salutations, but it should work for this as well.

Another option would be to create a short macro for each item and then
assign a button to it. Not hard to do, but why when AUTOTEXT is there.

Hi Nina-

For more than a short line of text, the feature you want to use is AutoText.
Select the content in an existing doc, go to Insert>AutoText and select New.
When you type in a name for the entry, make sure it is at least 4 characters
with no spaces or punctuation.

Once created, you can insert the entry into a doc by typing the name. When
the Tip Box displays just press Enter to complete the entry.

Some of the 'codes' may not work if you have other entries that start with
the same character string. Ideally, each entry should have a unique name.
Otherwise you will need to go to Insert>Autotext>AutoText to select the item
to be inserted from the list of entries.
