users cant log on

Stacy

I have a new user trying to logon to a win2k pro machine.
We are on a Win2003 domain. I am getting the follow error
cannot copy c:\documents and settings\default user\local
setting\application data\pchealth\error report\qsignoff\
to c:\documents and settings\(new user name)\local
settings\....
Access denied

Then I get that the user could not log on because not
profile can be created.
In the event ID it comes up 1000. The only thing I have
been able to find is to check inhertable permissions,
which I did and that did not work.
Can someone please help.

It sounds like that computer has ntfs permission problems - maybe someone modified
them. When a new user logs onto a computer for the first time a base profile is
created for that user based on the default profile on the computer and that is where
the problem is. I would check the ntfs permissions on that computer for the document
and settings folder compared to another computer that does not have that problem.
Users should have read/list execute permissions to the documents and settings folder
and the default user folder. Deny permissions can override allow permissions and none
would exist by default. You can also reset ntfs permissions back to default on a W2K
computer as described in the link below. --- Steve
