Usernames in a Peer-To-Peer Network

I need to network 5 XP PRO computers on a peer-to-peer network.
Some shared applications will reside on one (e.g. 'computer1')
I assume that I have to add the usernames & passwords of each user who will
access the application to 'computer1' as a local user as well as the
workstation that they will be working on?
If the user has to change his password then I assume that they will have to
change it twice (local workstation and 'computer1')?

Is there a better way of setting up this type of security?

TIA.

Hi Allan,

you are right. Users will need account on every PC that they will use on
LAN. I would advise you and your users to use same usernames and same
password on all PCs. E.g.

user1 password1
user2 password2
....

This should be same on all PCs. This way you can avoid some problems with
dialog boxes asking you to enter username and password.

The only alternative solution that I can think of is setting up a domain
where user can have one username and one password to access any resource
that you give him permission to.

Mike,

So assuming that we set-up a policy where the users have to change their
password every 30 days ...
they are going to have to march around the office and change it on 5
computers?

How would I set-up a domain on a peer-to-peer network.
Can you please point me in the right direction?

TIA.

Yes.

To set up a domain, you would need to setup Windows 2003 server.

Here are some information to start with:
Deploying the Windows Server 2003 Forest Root Domain

Windows 2000/2003 Server is out of the question at this time due to
financial constraints.
