Changing Computer Name

Are there any negative effects from changing a computer name in a peer-to-peer
network? A computer on the small network is named "Server". "Computer1" has a
spare drive. If I take "Server" off-line, rename "Computer1" to "Server", share
folders on the new "Server" the same as they were on the old "Server", shouldn't
the other computers on the network think that the old "Server" is still in place?

My concern is whether there are any security issues connected with changing the
name of "Computer1" to "Server". I think not.

Go right ahead - there are no concerns in a workgroup environment. Security
issues will remain unchanged if you apply the same permission structure as
you had before.

Great. That's what I thought. Thanks!

There no security issues that I'm aware of.
However some years back we changed the name
and the database located on a small server had some
issues that were easily fixed.
