network access denied problem

My father has an issue where he's networked two XP Home systems - Computer1
and Computer2 - with a crossover CAT5 cable and only one of the systems can
file share. Computer2 can see, transfer and otherwise alter files on
Computer1 but Computer1 cannot access Computer2, although it is recognized
as being a peer on the workgroup under Network Places. When I try to access
Computer2 from Computer1 I get a message similar to this:

Log on Failure. The user hasn't been granted the requested log on type at
this computer.

I'm not sure I understand this message.

Both Computers have shared access allowed of My Documents and the option to
allow users on the network to change files is enabled.
There are no Firewalls running although, because I don't yet know how XP
firewall works, I'm not absolutely certain that that isn't the problem,
although I doubt it. My father claims he doesn't see the service under admin
tools/Services on Computer1. I didn't bother looking on Computer2.

All network settings appear to be the same: On the same workgroup, IP class
is the same, shares allowed, logged in as administrator, file and print
sharing installed, TCP/IP is functioning correctly, etc.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Make sure 1) identical user accounts and passwords are created on both
machines; 2) he isn't using a blank password.

We did set up identical usernames but no passwords. I don't understand why
we would need passwords set up, though. I have 3 xp systems networked at
home, one being PRO the other 2 Home, and I don't have identical usernames
and passwords on these systems (Although I think I allowed the guest account
on Pro) and I'm able to view files.

Just try it, OK? XP sometimes has a problem with blank passwords. You
can always use TweakUI to set an automatic logon.
