User State Migration Tool 3.01 Syntax

Now that the USMT tool is all XML based, I'm trying to find the
correct syntax to backup certain folders located on the root of the C:
drive. Can anyone show me the correct syntax to do this? I've tried
the examples from the MSDN site, but scanstate errors out and the
scanstate.log file tells me that I have the file incorrectly
formatted. I'm copying the example directly from the site. Do I edit
the Config.xml file to do this, or do I need to edit the MigApp.xml or
MigUser.xml file for this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
