User Profiles

Chris

My wife went to log on to our computer that has XP Pro on
it. We have 3 profiles that show up at the start.
Earlier in the day her profile was fine but after shutting
it down for a while and restarting, her profile was no
longer associated with her login "button". It took her to
a "new user" screan. Her profile seems to be intact on
the hard drive and I can get to all her old desktop icons,
files, etc. but I am unsure how to reassociated the button
on the user select screan to her actual profile location.

Any help? System Restore is out because somebody had the
dumb thing turned off on me.

Thanks in advance.

A profile can be copyed to another profile. So what you
need to do is:

Go to C:\Documents and settings\ and take a look at the
profiles. One of the profiles is the new on and one is
the old one (you should also see administrator, all users
and default user).

Look at the size of the folders. The old one should be
the largest one(it allso has the things from "My
documents" and desktop etc.). Now, remember witch profile
is the old and witch is the new.

Right click on "My Computer" -> "Properties" -
"Advanced" -> "Settings" (under User Profiles) ->
(check the old profile) "Copy To" -> "Browse" -> Check
the folder of the new profile.

After this you can delete the old profile (same place as
you copyed it from).

Good Luck!
