Copying Local Profile to Roaming Profile

I have a user currently using a local profile. I'm trying to migrate her to
a roaming profile.

When I log in as ANY administrator (local or domain) account the "Copy To"
button is grayed out for the local profile I want to copy. I've restarted
the machine each time I logged into an administrator level account to be sure
that nothing from the user's profile is starting on login; but have had no
luck.

How can I get this information copied?

Are all the local user profiles showing this or just this one? If you don't
have other user profiles then logon with another domain user or a test
domain user to create one to see if the same thing happens. If the problem
persists you could consider having the user use File and Transfer Settings
Wizard to backup her files and settings to a file, delete her user profile
after backing it up in total and making sure she exports any EFS
certificate/private key if EFS is used by her, and then have her logon again
to create a new user profile and then restore her files and settings to see
if that makes a differerence in case there was some sort of
rruption. --- Steve

Thanks for getting back to me.

I've got two domains in my forest. I logged in on the domain admin accounts
for both and neither one of them would allow me to copy ANY of the profiles.
The same was true for the local admin account.

What am I missing?

I am at a loss also if none of the administrator accounts works even the
local administrator account. You may also want to post in the
Microsoft.public.windowsxp.setup newsgroup to see if anyone there has an
idea. One thing I would try is to run the support tool netdiag on the
computer you are trying to do this on to make sure that no problems are
shown for dns, dc discovery, domain membership, or trust/secure channel.
The support tools are on the install CD for XP in the support/tools
older. --- Steve

I've checked that already.

This error is inconsistent. I've got some profiles I can copy and others
that I can't.

I've got to get this fixed. I've got two servers I have to consolidate down
to one.

Steven & To Anyone Else Having This Problem...

On a hunch I decided to boot up one of the machines in "Safe Mode with
Networking" and what do ya know?! The "Copy To" button worked just fine!

I tried it on three machines and it worked on every one of them. Why it's
not exactly the "textbook solution", I'm willing to chalk this one up in the
"Win!" column!

You might also need for the administrator to take ownership of the profile
folders and/or grant the admin account write access to the folders. But it
souds like some process had the folders/files locked, perhaps a anit-virus
scan or a user was logged on?
